The SRII Research Environment
The Swedish Research Institute in Istanbul provides a forum where students and scholars can meet for study and dialogue in a multidisciplinary environment. Research projects conducted in this environment cover a large geographical as well as temporal span and focus on a number of different areas and topics in fields within both the Humanities and the Social Sciences. Work on these projects is supported through library services, lectures, seminars, workshops and other activities organized by the Institute.
Scientific monographs and anthologies issued by an editorial board appointed by the Research Institute are published in the two book series Transactions and Papers. Articles for a wider, popular and mostly Swedish-speaking audience as well as works in progress may appear in the annual Dragomanen and a newly revitalized booklet series for lengthier articles, formerly called ”Skrifter-Publications”, now renamed as Gyllene Hornet.
Undergraduate and graduate students that are granted scholarships by SRII are invited to stay at the Institute for a specified length of time in order to work on the research tasks formulated in their applications. Especially for the sake of these students, Discussion Seminars are held for remarks and comments on scientific issues brought up and presented by the students themselves or by some other researcher present at the Institute.
